Pericles
Today was our first cyber day since school was canceled for 2 weeks due to the corona virus. Today we were assigned to read pg. 134-139 in our textbook and write a paragraph.
Pericles was a statesman, politician, inspiring speaker, and a respectable general who led Athens during its best time. He dominated the life of Athens from 461-429 B.C. This age is known as the Age of Pericles. Pericles goals for Athens was to strengthen the Athenian democracy, hold and strengthen the empire, and to glorify Athens. A direct democracy is a form of government in which the citizens rule directly and not through representatives. Other city states also ruled under this government, but not many. The Delian league was formed after the defeat of the Persians. Athens took leadership in the league and dominated all the city states in it. The Delian League helped Athens a lot because Pericles used the money from the league to strengthen their navy (the greatest in the Mediterranean) and the safety of their empire.
