Persian vs Greece

Today in class we took more notes on the Greece PowerPoint. We talked about the Spartans, Greek Battle terms, and the Persian vs. Greek war. The Greeks were warlike people. They were strategic during war since they were small in size. infantry were soldiers who fought on land. the spartan boys trained since they were 7 years old. Athens had a great infantry, but thy had an even better navy (one of the best). they had a trireme which was their most effective weapon. It was the fastest ship in the world at the time. It was rowed by about 170 men on 3 levels. a phalanx was a grouping of warriors. they were armed with spears and interlocking shields. they would advance slowly until they broke through their ranks. the Persian vs. Greek war was a war that shocked everyone. the Persian had a much bigger land and a lot more people. The Greeks had a very small land compared to the Persians. The Greek did have some advantages though. they were fighting on their homeland, so they knew their way around. they had foot soldiers (hoplites) who were trained since an early age. they also often fought in phalanx. The Persians were able to use their weapons from a distance which gave an advance too.
