Notes
Today in class we took notes on a section in the textbook and on some slides on the PowerPoint. In the textbook I took notes on how philosopher is a thinker who uses logic and reason to investigate the nature of the universe, human society, and morality. The 2 assumptions of philosophers are that the universe is put together in an orderly way, and subject to absolute and unchanging laws. The other one is that people can understand these laws through logic and reason. Sophists are a group of philosophers who questioned people' unexamined beliefs and ideas about justice and other traditional values. One of the most famous sophists is Protagoras. He questioned the existence of the Greek Gods. Socrates was a critic of Sophists. He encouraged the Greeks to question themselves. Plato was a student of Socrates. Around 370 his most famous work was The Republic. Aristotle was Plato's student. He questioned the nature of the world, human belief, thought, and knowledge. Most of this was also in the PowerPoint.
