Definitions from new section

Today we were assigned to define these following terms. 

 Republic - a form of government in which power rests with citizens who have the right to vote for their leaders

 Patrician - wealthy landowners who held most of the power

 Plebeian - the common farmers, artisans, and merchants who made up the majority of the population

 Tribune - representatives elected by the plebeian's assembly(which Rome leaders allowed) to protect the rights of plebeians from unfair acts of patrician officials

 Consul - are two officials (like kings) in Rome that commanded the army and directed the government for one year (couldn't be elected agin until ten years)

 Senate - the aristocratic branch of Rome's government

 Dictator - a leader who had absolute power to make laws and command the army

 Legion - Roman soldiers that are organized into large military unit 

 Punic Wars - In 264 BC Rome and Carthage went to War. This started many more battles/wars between them

 Hannibal - a brilliant military strategist who wanted to avenge Carthage's earlier defeat

Today in class we learned about grids, latitude, and longitude. We talked about how geography is the study of where things are found on Earth's surface and how a map is a two dimensional or flat-scale model of Earth's Surface. A very important part of maps are cartographers because they make maps. An old and important Greek cartographer was Eratosthenes. He created a map around 195 BCE, and it was used for many years after it was made. We also discussed the difference between latitude and longitude. PowerPoint

Today in class we took notes on an Ancient Greece PowerPoint. We didn't do all of the PowerPoint, we mostly learned about the geography of Greece. Greece had many mountains, actually 3/4 of Greece is covered by mountains. Greece is also a peninsula surrounded by water. This makes trade easier because they could sail. There was about 2,000 islands in the Ionian and Aegean Sea. This required many skilled sailors and shipbuilders. The temperatures of Greece provided good weather for farming, but only 20% of Greece was farmable. Another thing we learned about was the separation between the communities. Unlike the U.S., where we consider ourselves as united Americans no matter what state we live in, the Greeks did not. Spartans would consider themselves Spartans more than Greeks. Essay

Today in class we started working on our essay that we are writing in class on Friday as part of our exam grade. Out of the three topics we were given, I chose the first option ( option  A). I choose this topic because  I think I will be able to give the most information on this topic than the other topics. In this topic there are many factors to contribute to my arguments about the three countries I picked to talk about which are  Japan, Venezuela, and Mexico.  I might change my countries if  I  find more  information  on  different   countries   tonight . I am more familiar with the ideas of population, immigration, population pyramids, and problems with society than the stages of the demographic transition. I will probably try to finish my essay tonight and state all the problems for each country and think of ways the problems can be solved. Hopefully I can finish it tonight so I can get it proof read on Thursday.
